DOES YOU SYSTEM RESTORE TO A CRITICAL UPDATES INSTALL
I can install everything automatically, recommended. So, if you look here in Windows Update, there's an option that says Change Settings, and here, I've got some choices. The thing is, is that with Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1, you had some control over this, and let me show you how we could do some of those controls.

Now, there's a third type of update that we're not seeing here, and those are called Critical updates, and those, if they find a really bad problem and they're going to mark them as Critical, and those we probably want to do. When it comes to Windows Update, in general, I'm the type of person who likes to see what the update is and then choose it for myself whether I actually want to do that update. I'm probably going to have to be looking some of this stuff up. What do we got for Optional? So, it's going to be a platform update for Windows 7. So, you'll see we have Important and Optionals. In the Microsoft world, we use what are called Knowledge Base, or these KB values, that will define in great detail exactly what those are. We can actually click on these and get more details about what they exactly are. What we're seeing here are a number of different types of updates for, we have malware, we have updates for the operating system itself, we have security updates. So, here we see we have 31 important updates available, so let's take a look what Microsoft gives us. We could go through a process of checking for updates, and then it would give us different updates.

Back in the Windows 7 days, it looked something like this. Windows Update is built into all versions of Windows. Now, I want to start with Windows 'cause, well, I'm a Windows guy, and remember that the A+ covers a lot of different versions of Windows, so I want to start with one of the oldie goldies, and this is Windows 7 and it's called Windows Update. What we're going to be dealing with here for the A+ exam is the actual nuts and bolts of doing a patch management for different operating systems. In an enterprise environment, patch management is a very big deal, where somebody wants to make some type of update and they fill out a form and there's a committee that overviews it, and all that.

Now, there's two big separations when we talk about patch management. Our firmware that's built into our systems that they're the most secure, safe, and stable they can be. There are bad guys who are finding things that'll allow them to attack your computer, there are bugs in different types of software that need to be dealt with. Look, the bottom line is, is that there's a lot of evil out in the world. And optimizing any operating system is patch management.
